HOW WILL CALLBACKS WORK?
We will only have callbacks if needed on Monday June 8
Actors called back will be invited to a Zoom meeting and may be asked to sing, dance, or act with others

HOW WILL REHEARSALS WORK?
We will rehearse both over Zoom and in person in small, socally distanced groups. Rehearsing music virtually is very challenging due to delay/syncing issues, so there will likely be a steep learning curve as we figure out the most productive methods. Actors will be called to Zoom meetings with the director or choreographer, or in-person with masks and distancing rehearsals with the music director Monday through Friday 5:30-8:30pm and Saturdays 9am-1pm. Not all actors will be called to all rehearsals. We will also provide music tracks for rehearsing at home.
We are constructing 8ft cubicles (three sides of flats, open to the front) on the outdoor stage at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts. At times we may rehearse with up to 10 actors at a time with each actor in a cubicle. Masks and/or face shields will likely continue to be employed for safety. All participants in live rehearsals may be subjected to touch-free temperature scans and basic health questions before participating. Actors will have contact with the stage manager when getting their microphones put on or taken off.
We will also include opportunities for bonding, fun, and hanging out!
BASIC REHEARSAL SCHEDULE

HOW WILL PERFORMANCES WORK?
We are constructing 8ft cubicles (three sides of flats, open to the front) on the outdoor stage at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts. Over a series of evenings we will film up to 10 actors at a time performing within individual cubicles. This is to alleviate much of the delay/syncing problems inherent in virtual communication. We will record the ensemble separately from the named roles. All participants in performance recordings may be subjected to touch-free temperature scans and basic health questions before participating. Actors will have contact with the stage manager when getting their microphones put on or taken off.
On the evenings of performance, the named role actors will perform live within their stage cubicles, and we will broadcast them over the recording of the ensemble. If anything goes wrong with the live performance feed, we will switch to the recorded version of the named roles. Audience members can purchase a link to a private live youtube screening.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for a diverse cast of talented singers and actors age 13-19. All ethnicities are encouraged to audition, and all genders will be considered for all roles. We are looking to create a more modern/pop feel to this timeless classic!

IS THERE A PARTICIPATION FEE?
Yes. There is a reduced participation fee of $185. While our costs for making this happen are still high, we recognize that this experience will lack some of what makes our normal rehearsal process so worth-while to you. We hope families may consider donating to YAE in this difficult time. All performing arts companies are struggling - please support the ones that have contributed to the joy in your life!

CAST/PARENT MEETING
If cast, there will be a virtual cast/parent meeting via Zoom on Thursday June 11 at 6pm

We regret to announce that the COVID-19 situation will require that we postpone auditions and performances of Les Misérables to summer 2021.The current stay safe at home situation, which could very well continue for months, means that our only option is to move to a live-stream-from-home version of our Teen Summer Musical. Unfortunately, the performance rights to Les Misérables will not allow live streaming.

We are thrilled, however, to tell you all that one of our most successful titles of all time, The Pirates of Penzance, is in public domain and we can live stream it! Our director, Mark Reyes, and his production staff are all huge fans of Pirates and know it will be an exceptionally fun and entertaining show! We are developing plans to create an unforgettable summer for those who audition and are chosen to be in our cast. We have only one goal which is to create a theater experience that you will remember and enjoy for the rest of your life. We will include all the elements of theater: acting, singing, orchestra, and dance while working with the best local people to assist in the tech needed to create exceptional live stream performances.

In addition, we have created the YAE Online Live Program and there will be many opportunities to perform in a live streamed format. We believe that the Arts are Essential and we are committed to creating theater in all its forms. Stay safe & keep singing, dancing, and performing!

If you were previously signed up for either a cast or an orchestra audition appointment for Les Misérables and wish to keep your audition for Pirates, don't respond to this email and we will keep you on the list. If you no longer wish to participate then EMAIL US and we will remove your name.

Mistakenly apprenticed to a pirate (instead of a pilot) by his nursemaid Ruth at the age of eight, the handsome Frederic is now twenty-one and, though quite fond of the group of joyous and fun-loving pirates, chooses to abandon his profession, dedicating himself instead to their eradication. Shortly after leaving them, he encounters a gaggle of beautiful maidens (one of whom, Mabel, steals his heart) and their father, the eccentric Major-General. The whole group has a run-in with the pirates themselves before escaping on the false premise that the Major-General is an orphan -- a fact these tenderhearted pirates simply cannot help but take into account, given the fact that the majority of them are orphans themselves. Just as Frederic is ready to lead a band of lily-livered policemen to take out the Pirate King and his men, a secret is uncovered that will change his fate forever.
